This knife block holds your specialty knives, that you don't necessarily use every day. you get one of each of the following, a Chef knife, Bread Knife, Slicing knife, a Boning knife, utility and of course a paring knife. The one thing I will tell you, is they are EXTREMELY sharp. I accidentally touched the bread knife wrong, and took me ten minutes to get my finger to stop bleeding. It wasn't a deep cut, it was just happened to nick the blood vessel.
I am very very impressed with the packing and the safety they put in it. Knives have a plastic guard, wrapped in plastic then cardboard over top of them. The block is solid wood, with rubber feet, that stop it from sliding around on the counter. The handles on the knives are solid wood, and feel good in your hand. The only thing the manufacture suggests is you hand wash them, and don't put them in the dish washer.
